I will be spending December 27th to January 3rd in New England summiting six state high points in six days. This will be my first time to any of these states, so I am excited to see both their mountains/peaks and their cities (restaurants and beer in particular).
The list for those following along:
- Jerimouth Hill, Rhode Island – 811 ft
- High Point, New Jersey – 1,804 ft
- Mount Frissell (South Shoulder), Connecticut – 2,380 ft
- Mount Greylock, Massachusetts – 3,491 ft
- Mount Marcey, New York – 5,344 ft
- Mount Mansfield, Vermont – 4,393 ft
Outside of Mount Marcy (pictured below) which is an 18 mile RT, these are relatively simple hikes. The challenge will be ascending in winter in snowy/icy conditions.

But, as I learned in my visit to Norway, “there is no bad weather, just bad gear” [italics mine]. I will be prepared for the worst and will hope for… nobody likes cliches.
I aspire to post each day with an update on the adventure, so follow along. If you don’t see posts for a few days, I am probably exhausted (lots of hiking and lots of driving), lost (good bet), frozen, or a combination of all. Come find me!
If you have local recommendations in Boston or Burlington for food/drink, fire away!
